Llanelli Fashion Week
FORGET London, Paris and Milan, Llanelli is where the latest trends will be found when the town hosts its first ever fashion week.
Five days of glittering fashion-led events are being planned across the town, all in aid of the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy as nearly 50 retailers from the town centre and Trostre showcase the latest looks from casual and work wear to wedding gowns and prom dresses.
Organising committee chairwoman Angela Saunders said: “We are really excited to have so many businesses on board already, and we are really looking forward to showing off what our town has to offer.
“This is the first Llanelli Fashion Week and it will be held in five different venues around the town. There will be a different theme every day, with different traders, and we are hoping to raise a serious amount of money.”
Making sure nobody forgot the cause behind the campaign was Rupert Moon, who made an appearance at the launch event decked out in a brand new Ray Gravell hoody, cap and ‘Grow a Grav’ beard.
“I think the innovation and concept that has been driven by Angela and everyone involved is fabulous,” he said.
“I think we have got a lovely town centre, and this is a way of showing that off.”
Mr Moon also revealed that a number of Scarlets players, including Josh Turnbull and Rob McCusker, would be modelling during the week.
He said: “Some of the guys enjoyed being fashion models too much during our Pretty in Pink night and they will be involved in the shows.
“Josh and Rob are happy to show anything they have to for a worthy cause, so I’m sure they will be there.”
Also showcasing the latest trends will be the lucky finalists of our forthcoming competition to find the Face of Llanelli, open to males and females hoping to be the next big thing on the runway. Budding designers are also in with a chance to see their creations brought to life as they compete to be crowned Llanelli Designer of the Year.
The week will kick off with a catwalk show at the St Elli Centre on Monday, March 21.
And to top if all off, the event will include a raffle with great prizes up for grabs, including a car donated by Gravells.
The Llanelli Star is the media partner for the event, so look out for more details soon. Visit llanellifashionweek.co.uk

LLANELLI people are being urged to donate big for the British Heart Foundation at
the St Elli Shopping Centre.
It is part of the nationwide charity’s biggest ever stock appeal this month — the Big
Donation. Up until Sunday, September 26, visitors can take in good quality clothing,
shoes, accessories, books, toys and bric-a-brac.
Shopping centre manager Andrew Stephens said: “This is a great opportunity to have
a good sort out at home in the knowledge that all your donated items will go to an
excellent cause.”
Donations should be left at the drop-off point near the Peacocks store.
BHF area manager Terry Hughes said: “If everyone in Llanelli fills up a bag they will
be helping to save lives in their community.
“It really is as simple as that.”
People can also donate unwanted furniture and electrical items. Arrange free
collection by calling 0844 412 5000
St Elli Collects for Pakistan
All the retailers in the St Elli Centre have agreed to have a collection tin on
the till point for a two week period between Saturday 18th September and
Saturday 2nd October. The collection will be for the devastation in Pakistan
caused by the recent flooding that has affected almost 21 million people.
Jane Cocking a Humanitarian Director for Oxfam said.
People in the flood’s wake were already desperately poor and what little
possessions they had have been washed away. The extent of this crisis is only
slowly emerging. The more villages that are reached the grimmer the picture
becomes.
There is a desperate need for temporary shelter, clean drinking water and
toilets to avert a public health catastrophe. People also need medical care and
basic food items. We are looking at a sizable aid package that will require a
great deal of public support.
So please when shopping in one of the St Elli retailers please donate your
loose change.
Thank You

St. Elli Craft & Gift Fair
The St Elli Centre held a Contemporary Craft & Gift Fair on the 15th July with
twelve stall holders. This proved so popular with both the public and the stall
holders that we have now extended it to the first Thursday of each month.
On Thursday 5th August and 2nd September there were stalls selling handmade
jewellery, soaps, knitwear, wooden ornaments, pictures to name but a few.
There is room for twenty five tables within the pyramid area of the St Elli.
Towards the end of November 22nd to 28th there will be a weeklong craft fair
which will provide a great addition to the Christmas shopping in the St Elli.
